True ownership role - Full end‑to‑end accountability for payroll, with the autonomy to stabilise, improve and shape how payroll is delivered
Tandem Partners is partnering with a complex, fast-evolving organisation to appoint an experienced Payroll Manager who can take full ownership of payroll, stabilise operations and lead the function through a period of consolidation and system change.
This is a hands-on Payroll Manager role ideal for someone who enjoys being close to the detail, while also improving systems, processes and future-state design.
The opportunity
The organisation operates across multiple entities, industrial agreements and payroll cycles. Payroll currently covers 50–80 employees across three EBAs, three entities, and weekly, fortnightly and monthly pay runs.
The focus is now on centralisation, system uplift and continuity with a longer-term view to potential payroll outsourcing and an opportunity for the role to evolve into a Compensation & Benefits once payroll is embedded and running efficiently.
This role sits in a newly shaped structure and has strong executive support, clear priorities and genuine scope to make things better.

What you’ll be responsible for
As Payroll Manager, you will:
- Own end-to-end payroll delivery across multiple entities and EBAs
- Manage pay cycles and ensure accuracy, compliance and timeliness
- Drive system and process optimisation
- Reduce key-person dependency by documenting and embedding knowledge
- Partner with Finance, HR and operational leaders as the payroll subject-matter expert
- Support future-state planning, including readiness for payroll outsourcing

- Payroll running smoothly, accurately and reliably
- Simplified and standardised processes
- Lifted system capability and reduced manual workarounds
You are a Payroll Manager or Senior Payroll professional ready to step into a true ownership role. You bring:
- Deep, hands-on experience managing end-to-end payroll
- Strong knowledge of Australian payroll compliance and EBAs
- High systems literacy and confidence leading payroll system change
- A proactive, action-oriented mindset
- The ability to translate knowledge into practical outcomes
- A service-led approach and appreciation for payroll’s impact on people
