People Partner

People Partner

People Partner in Logistics and Supply Chain with Global Organisation with CBD and Western Suburb locations
  • People Partner in logistics and supply chain
  • Based in the City with fortnightly on-site days in West Melbourne
  • The organisation
Our client is a large, global organisation operating in the logistics and supply chain sector, with a significant frontline workforce across Australia and a broader international footprint. The local business is undergoing a period of transformation, including organisational restructure, increased use of shared services, and the rollout of new HR systems and ways of working.

The People & Culture function is being rebuilt with a clear intent to lift HR capability, maturity, and credibility with leaders.

    The role
This People Partner role is designed for a proactive, commercially minded HR professional who values true partnering over administration. You will work closely with leaders in an operational environment, challenging the status quo, coaching capability, and demonstrating what effective, modern HR looks like in practice.

This is not a purely strategic or hands‑off role. You will roll up your sleeves when needed, engaging in day‑to‑day matters to build trust and credibility, while progressively shifting leaders toward greater ownership and independence.

    Key responsibilities
    • Partner proactively with leaders to identify people risks, opportunities, and continuous improvement initiatives
    • Coach and upskill leaders in performance management, feedback, and employee communication, reducing reliance on HR
    • Provide clear, confident ER/IR advice, including application of the Fair Work Act, NES, EBAs, contracts, and policy
    • Challenge inappropriate or low‑value requests while maintaining respectful and pragmatic relationships
    • Advocate for and embed effective use of HR systems and automation (e.g. HRIS and recruitment platforms)
    • Support delivery of core people processes such as performance cycles, engagement actions, workforce planning, and succession activity
    • Contribute to broader change initiatives and global HR projects as required
    • Be visible and engaged with frontline teams, including occasional travel to interstate sites
    What you’ll bring
    • Proven experience supporting both blue‑collar and white‑collar workforces
    • Experience working in operational environments, ideally within logistics, transport, manufacturing, or similar
    • Practical understanding of Enterprise Bargaining Agreements (EBAs) and unionised workforces
    • Strong ER/IR foundations, with confident knowledge of Australian employment legislation
    • A coaching mindset with the confidence to have difficult conversations and push back when needed
    • Comfort operating in change, ambiguity, and evolving organisational structures
    • Ability to connect with leaders from less formal or non‑corporate backgrounds and influence effectively
    • Strong systems mindset and willingness to challenge manual or outdated HR practices
    • Exposure to New Zealand HR practices is advantageous but not required
    • Unrestricted working rights in Australia is required and you will be subject to some police checks.
    Working arrangement
    • Hybrid model: 3 days in the office, 2 days remote
    • Core in‑office days aligned to the People & Culture team (e.g. Monday and Tuesday) in Docklands.
    • Some on‑site presence at operational locations in West Melbourne will be required to build relationships
    • Flexibility to balance business needs with personal commitments
