  • This opportunity sits within a highly regarded intellectual property and professional services organisation with a long-standing market reputation and a strong presence across patents, trademarks and legal services. The business operates within a broader group structure and is entering a significant phase of growth, transformation and increased performance focus.

    Reporting to the Head of People & Culture, this role acts as the primary Business Partner to the Patents Practice – a global, highly specialised workforce of approximately 120 employees across Australia, New Zealand and Asia. This is a visible and trusted advisory position, partnering closely with senior leaders to align people strategy with commercial priorities.

    Operating in an environment where people practices are continuing to evolve, the role blends strategic partnering with hands-on delivery. A key focus will be embedding structure and discipline across performance, remuneration and talent frameworks – including introducing more formalised processes.

    Alongside this, the role plays a critical part in coaching leaders, managing employee relations matters, and supporting the attraction and development of high-calibre, specialist talent. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the continued development and uplift of People & Culture capability, driving meaningful change within a highly intelligent, analytical stakeholder environment.

    Key responsibilities
    • Partner with senior leaders across the global patents practice to translate business strategy into practical people plans
    • Drive the implementation and uplift of performance management, remuneration and talent frameworks
    • Coach and influence leaders through change, building capability in people leadership and performance conversations
    • Lead and support complex employee relations matters with technically sound, commercially grounded advice
    • Support end-to-end recruitment and talent initiatives for specialist and early-career pipelines
    • Contribute to workforce planning, succession and capability development
    • Identify and implement improvements to people processes, systems and ways of working
    • Collaborate within a small P&C team and across a broader group structure
    About you
    • Proven experience as a Senior HR Business Partner within a complex environment
    • Strong technical expertise in employment law and employee relations (including Fair Work)
    • Ability to influence and challenge senior, highly analytical stakeholders with credibility and confidence
    • Experience in professional services, legal, consulting or similarly structured environments is advantageous
    • Track record of embedding or uplifting performance, remuneration and talent frameworks
    • Commercially minded, pragmatic and solutions-focused
    • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and evolving organisational environments
    • Strong coaching, communication and relationship-building capability
