HR Business Partner (Utilities Sector)

(Senior) HR Business Partner in the utilities sector with major focus on leadership capability development and workforce planning.
  • HR Business Partner for corporate & site-based workforces
  • Major focus on leadership capability, workforce planning and succession
  • Hybrid working environment
  • Join a complex, project-based business in the utilities sector at a pivotal stage of growth and capability uplift. This role partners with a portfolio spanning large-scale infrastructure and operational environments, alongside a corporate stakeholder group, with a major focus on leadership capability, talent development and organisational effectiveness.

Working closely with senior leaders, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering people strategies that strengthen leadership capability, build talent pipelines and support long-term business performance. This is a highly visible partnering role where success will come from developing trusted relationships, understanding the operational realities of the business and helping leaders translate people priorities into action.

    The Role
This role entails partnering with both Group Finance and an operational portfolio and therefore offers a wide variety of tasks and projects with which to engage. While you will provide advice across the full employee lifecycle, a significant focus of the role is partnering with leaders to strengthen capability, improve leadership effectiveness and ensure future talent needs are planned for and developed.
    • Partner with senior leaders to develop and execute people strategies aligned to business priorities.
    • Drive leadership and management capability initiatives, including coaching, training and development programs.
    • Lead succession planning, talent development and workforce planning activities to build future capability.
    • Support leaders to identify organisational capability gaps and develop practical solutions to address them.
    • Provide trusted advice across employee relations, industrial relations and workplace investigations.
    • Partner with leaders to embed accountability, strengthen team effectiveness and support organisational change.
    • Lead or contribute to strategic HR projects and broader organisational capability initiatives.
    About You
    • Demonstrable track-record as a HR Business partner to senior leaders in sizeable, operational or project-based organisations. The client group is mostly white-collar or highly skilled labour professionals, therefore knowledge of site-based senior leadership challenges is preferred.
    • Demonstrated success leading leadership capability, talent development and organisational effectiveness initiatives.
    • Strong employee and industrial relations capability, including workplace investigations and dispute resolution. There is a dedicated IR function but as BP you will be the first respondent and need to be comfortable to handle things independently and know when to triage.
    • The ability to identify people-related risks, provide practical advice and maintain momentum on key initiatives.
    • Experience working in environments where operational priorities move quickly and competing demands need to be balanced effectively.
    • A proactive and relationship-driven approach, with the ability to build trust, challenge constructively and deliver outcomes.

This role is designed for an experienced (senior) HR Business Partner who is able to deliver with impact. Influencing skills are essential!  This role offers the opportunity to make a genuine impact. You'll join a collaborative and well-regarded People team, work closely with engaged senior leaders and have the scope to shape leadership capability, succession planning and talent outcomes across a growing and dynamic business
